Dominiek adopts a trauma-informed approach to her counselling practice. Shortly after graduating as a counsellor in 2007, in her role at Blueknot Foundation (formerly ASCA), Dominiek developed a series of programs for adult survivors of childhood trauma. In this capacity she developed the first iteration of the trauma-informed principles of care that have become widely adopted. She also published three papers outlining the biopsychosocial impacts of childhood trauma, principles of best-practice and existing treatment models. Dominiek also brings experience as Director of Research at the National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse.
In addition to her professional and academic experience, Dominiek’s practice is also informed by her lived experience of childhood trauma.
